Downtown Mesa Community Fridge

Downtown Mesa Community Fridge

End Food Waste

Each year, the U.S. throws away over 133 billion pounds of food and drink. Collecting food from local restaurants, grocery stores, home cooks and others with excess to donate provides a solution for redistributing perishable foods, such as bread and produce, which are the most commonly wasted food items.

Foster Food Security

In areas that lack access to nutritious food, community fridges can be extremely impactful. Community fridges redistribute up to 771,618 pounds of food a year. That's the same weight as 30 school buses! The Downtown Mesa Community Fridge provides healthy food to locals and eliminates their vulnerability to food insecurity.

Save Money

An estimated 161 billion dollars worth of food is wasted from households every year. Our community fridge enables individuals facing financial hardship to access fresh and nutritious foods in an inclusive and stress-free way.

We recognize that food waste and community hunger are growing concerns across the United States, so Garden Pool has joined a growing effort to tackle these complex challenges! The aim of the Community Fridge is to eliminate food waste and provide fresh food for the community in an easy and accessible way. By collecting leftover fresh food from local businesses and community members and making it available to local residents, the Downtown Mesa Community Fridge will address the threat of malnutrition, food deserts, social isolation and more!

The Community Fridge is housed and hosted by Garden Pool at our store in downtown Mesa, located at 659 E Main St, Suite #112, Mesa, AZ, USA 85203. The fridge will be open 5 days a week to enable residents and businesses to share surplus food and for anyone to help themselves to quality food that would otherwise be wasted. It will be open between 9am-3pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. Food grown in the facility will also be available at the fridge!

The fridge is a multifaceted solution that tackles many concerns throughout communities everywhere. By providing healthy food options in an accessible and communal way, we will be able to address and improve social isolation and community cohesion, while reducing the threat of food deserts and malnutrition. With the implementation of this project, the community will become more knowledgeable about sustainable practices and relieved from possible financial hardships.
